New stones, if they are not water soluble or too fragile benefit from being washed in warm soapy water to remove any dust or grime. But all more importantly all your stones should be energised and cleansed before and after use, as the crystal or gemstone absorbs energy from the surroundings into its internal structures where imbalances are corrected. If they are not cleansed the crystal will become overloaded which reduces its effectiveness, a clean crystal feels lighter and looks brighter than a tired stone.
Crystal Cleansing Methods:-
Running water and sunlight :- hold the stone under running water and place in sunlight ( not suitable for water-soluble crystals, fragile crystals or crystals that fade in sunlight.
SOUND
Strike or ring a singing bowl, bell, cymbal or tuning fork near the crystal for energetic cleansing.
INCENSE
Incense has always been used to cleanse, burn some incense and pass the stone several times through the smoke.
SALT
Place the crystal in a bowl and cover it with dry sea salt and leave it to stand overnight (avoid placing crystals in salt water as this can corrode the surfaces).
CLUSTER
Place the stone on any larger crystal cluster to restore natural levels of energy.
ESSENCES
Spray the stones with a cleansing flower and gem essence.
MOONLIGHT & SUNLIGHT
The rays of the sun and moon are energetically very clearing and energetically cleansing, as well as energizing. Placing your stones outside on on a window sill where they can soak up the sunlight or moonlight for a day/night to a week is very beneficial. Do be careful though, as some the colours of some stones may fade in the sun. A few of the stones that will fade in the sun are amethyst, celestite, opal, and turquoise. If you have any doubts at all, be sure to use only moonlight cleansing.
