Friends of the Rez was formed in 2007 by John Chappell after he visited Lame Deer reservation (Northern Cheyenne people) and was inspired by the warmth and kindness demonstrated often in the face of financial and social adversity.The aim of Friends of the Rez is to fundraise to help Native American Indians overcome some of the hardships that many face. The funds are used for several projects - one off and regular donations - to help low income families and communities on the Reservation. Examples of some of the projects we have donated to in the past include; winter clothing and blankets, clothing and shoes for school starters, children’s Christmas presents and fuel for transporting schools sports teams.
We also bring Native Americans to the UK to dance and sing at UK Pow Wows and to help broaden their horizons, to experience the high esteem Europeans have for their culture and history, and encourage their own self esteem to grow on their return home. In turn they teach and share their culture with a keen audience this side of the atlantic.
